Bad Peter

Bad Peter, a South African Folk Pop/Rock Duo, is made up of singer/songwriters, PG Badenhorst and Alwyn Bekker. Formed in 2014, the duo forged their career the old-fashioned way, playing pubs and clubs night after night. In 2015 they released their debut-single “Month of May” and secured themselves a spot on the South African iTunes Top 40. They were soon playing every major festival in South Africa, their live set being characterised by high intensity and energy, fierce guitar playing and rich, punchy vocals.

2017 marked the year of their first independent release, ‘Need to Hear’, most notably their single ‘Stupid on a Sunday’, the duo’s most streamed and successful song to date. Their music is heavily influenced by the likes of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Bruce Springsteen and The Lumineers. Their music is easy listening, making you want to dance, with some slower ballads sprinkled in between.

The third EP ‘Home”, released in October 2022 saw a ballad of this kind, ‘Tipuana Tree’. The Springsteen-influenced folk song is a homage to family, small towns and having to relocate to the big city. The lead single, ‘Hold on’, with its tasteful guitar and harmonies, showcases the duo’s country influence.
2022 was a break out year for the duo as they opened for The Lumineers in their hometown of Pretoria.
