A Musical Journey Through South African Townships
In the late 1950s and 1960s, the youth of South Africa’s townships—Soweto, Meadowlands, Tsekane, and many others—embraced modern devices like transistor radios. These new gadgets quickly connected them to the vibrant music trends spreading across the townships.
Ghetto Blasters became prized possessions, amplifying the infectious rhythms of Kwela, Marabi, Jive, and upbeat African Jazz. This music was a feast for the imagination, demanding attention and respect. It inspired movements never before seen, compelling bodies to twist, writhe, and jerk in rhythm.
Our Pantsula Dancers bring a fresh twist to this dynamic, traditional form of Township dancing. Masters of body comedy, their hilarious on-stage antics, agile (almost rubberized) bodies, vibrant dance routines, crisp new costumes, and throbbing Kwela music tracks have audiences in stitches. These unaffected, jovial dancers go out of their way to ensure the success of your event.
A surefire hit for both local and international audiences!
